Go to: Alaskan Way Viaduct | Fifth Avenue Paving | Link Light Rail This is your guide to working with and mitigating street, sidewalk, and utility construction that may impact your property or travel plans. The Alaskan Way Viaduct is a major transportation facility for the people that visit, work and live in Downtown. In response to damage suffered by the viaduct in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, repair and replacement of the viaduct has been a top priority for the State and the City of Seattle. Several projects are currently underway which will repair or replace about half of the seismically vulnerable viaduct. Among the priority projects for 2008, is the repaving of Fifth Avenue in Downtown Seattle from Denny Way to Marion Street. The project replaces asphalt, repairs the concrete or brick base beneath it, and adds new or upgraded curb ramps. Read project details and constuction updates.
