Plan to attend the MID’s Annual Meeting, taking place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29th at the One Union Square Board Room located on the first level of the Union Square complex at 600 Union. This year’s meeting features remarks from Seattle City Councilmember Tim Burgess, Chair, Public Safety, Human Services and Education along with a celebration of the MID’s 2007-08 successes.
In the last 365 days, the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) cleaned more than 15,000 graffiti tags, provided directions to more than 16,000 tourists and helped to make Downtown Seattle a friendly, safe place to work, live and visit. Other highlights include:
- Successful implementation of a new afternoon shift for MID’s maintenance ambassadors, resulting in nearly double the trash pick-up in the Downtown Core over last year.
- Beginning in February 2008, a new street outreach program allowed safety ambassadors to provide more comprehensive services to those dealing with chronic homelessness.
- Increased focus on customer service in the MID, with welcome kits for new residents and corporate newcomers.
- Nearly 40% reduction in observed drug activity over the previous year.
- More than 20% increase in the number of times MID ambassadors were approached for directions while on patrol.
As part of the annual meeting, the MID also will nominate a new board chair, officers and new board members. The MID will also present its operating budget and meeting schedule for the new year.
